We have mattresses and mosquito nets! – HCIC

Mattresses and NetsThank you so much to everyone who helped us raise enough money to purchase mattresses, blankets, and mosquito nets for the kids! Now that the election season in Kenya has subsided into a legal dispute and no winner has yet to be finalized, life in Kenya has tentatively been going back to normal. This means that Reverend Samson was able to purchase the much needed mattresses and mosquito nets for the children. The mosquito nets were badly needed to help reduce the risk of maleria and other mosquito blood-born infections, and the mattresses were badly needed to get the kids off of sleeping on the dirt floor.

As you can see below, the children now have a safer DSCN0550and more comfortable place to sleep. However, they are still on the floor, and the damage done to these mattresses will render them useless soon. Here is a photo taken of them on the roof, where they are stored while not in use, to prevent ongoing damage to them. We are very close to providing these children with a decent place to sleep, but we are missing an important step. We must provide Rev. Samson with the resources needed to get them beds.
Initially Rev. Samson’s hope was to get beds similar to the one seen in the picture below, but now he has reassessed and would like to purchase cheaper bunk beds, sleeping two children to each palate, or four
children to a bed. That means he needs 17 bunk DSCN0616beds.
To buy these he needs a total of 2325$ USD. Please consider contributing to the capital fund and helping Reverend Samson and the General Church Sacred Care Orphanage.
I also wanted to let you know that, if you choose to make a large donation or if we exceed this particular donation goal, the money will continue to go towards providing these children with a safe place to live. Where they live now is tolerable, but only just. They have rooms divided by tarp and their few possessions are hanging over their heads or on mats.
We aren’t out to build them a mansion, but instead something that in the Western World we would consider absolutely basic. Our long-term goal has been identified to be a total Bed areaof 150,000$ USD. This money will purchase land, a proper dormitory for both girls and boys separately, a place for the children’s custodians to live and care for them, and a kitchen, along with all of the supplies needed to get them started.
Just as your previous donations actually went to the purchase of mattresses and mosquito nets, the HCIC committee and the GCSH board are doing everything in their power to ensure that all future funds are also spent on the children’s identified needs. If you haven’t already, please take a look at our policies and procedures that we have put in place to facilitate this goal.

I wanted to say thank you again to everyone who made this possible, and also to thank you for all of your continued support.
